How to identify your Google Pixel phone model from the box.

How to identify your Google Pixel phone model

While there have not been many released so far, the Google Pixel is certainly one of the most challenging phones to identify. So, how do you identify your Google Pixel phone model?

Unlike Apple iPhone, Samsung and Huawei, Google Pixel phones do not have any standout features on the back, other than the Google logo. This can therefore make identifying which version of the Google Pixel phone you have very difficult if you cannot power the device on.

Where to find your Google Pixel phone model number

When, trying to identify your Google Pixel phone model, the quickest and easiest way is to go through the settings menu.

→ Settings → About Phone → Model Number.

This screen will tell you the make and model number of your device alongside the IMEI Number, serial number and also the version of Android you are running.

The difficulty arises when you cannot power the phone on. Typically at this point, we would advise checking the back cover of the device. Then search for the model number online in order to identify which Google Pixel phone model you own. However, the Google Pixel opts for a very clean look and does not have much information displayed on the external areas of the device.

On some models of the Google Pixel you can find a model number on the inside of the sim card tray. This will typically start with a “G-“ or “G” followed by a number of digits.

If you are able to find one inside of your sim card tray, consult the table below to find the exact model of your device.

Using the colour to find out which Google Pixel phone you have

Google Pixel phones have been produced in a number of rather unique colours.

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL came in Very “Silver”, “Really Blue” and “Quite Black”.

Whereas the Google Pixel 2 handset came in “Just Black”, “Kinda Blue” and “Clearly White”.

A Google Pixel 2 XL phone came in “Just Black” and “Black and White”.

The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL phones came in “Just Black”, “Clearly White” and “Not Pink”.

A Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL came in “Just Black”, “Purple-ish” and “Clearly White”.

The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL came in “Just Black” and “Clearly White”.

A Google Pixel 4a only came in “Just Black”.

The Google Pixel 5 came in “Just Black” and “Sorta Sage”.

All of Google’s colour names are unusual and look different across each model.

If you have a unique coloured device, for example, a purple device. You can quickly narrow down which Google Pixel phone you own. In this example, it could only be a Google Pixel 3a.

How to identify your Google Pixel phone model by the camera

Another identifying factor is the camera lens array.

The Google Pixel One, Pixel 2, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a only had a single camera in both the standard and XL variants.

"How

On the Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 phones they have a quad camera array.

Whereas the Google Pixel 4a had a duel camera array, set in a quad arrangement.

"How

By checking how many camera lenses there are, you can again narrow down which model of Google Pixel phone you have.

Identifying your Google Pixel phone model overall

Aside from those two details the difference between each model is very subtle. You would need to do a picture-by-picture comparison in order to identify the specific model if you could not power the device on.
